From TheKCGuy
If you're heading down to the Sprint Center this evening to see Garth Brooks, why don't you stop off at the one of the restaurants in the Freight House building for dinner or just a cocktail? I was recently down at Lidia's and had a great dinner. I hadn't been in there in almost a year and was reminded how cozy it is to sit up at the bar in front of that fireplace and have a glass of wine or a martini. I was also reminded of "the pants story."
You see, last time I was there I was going on a double date and we were planning on meeting one of my long-time friends and his new girlfriend there. After we parked and my date and I were climbing out of my car, the pocket of my pants caught on a part of the door latch. I didn't notice until I stepped all the way down and tore a good sized hole in my pants. When I felt the breeze where there had been no breeze before (and their should be no breeze), I realized that I was underdressed for even the relaxed dress code that most Kansas City restaurants offer.
Fortunately, I really like to be prepared, so I had a spare pair of pants in my car. I informed my date that I had suffered a wardrobe malfunction and asked her to head to the restaurant and wait for me there. Our friends may already be in there or would be along in a moment. I hopped back in my car, stripped off the bad pants and had begun wriggling in to the replacement parts when my friend and his date walked up to the car and knocked on the window waving "hello." They were about 9 seconds too early for me to be fully prepared for their arrival. Nine seconds is a long time when you're trying to pull your pants on and your friends are trying to tell what you're doing under the dim parking lot lights.
It was a good way to quickly get familiar with his new girlfriend, and we all had a blast that night. The food and the booze at Lidia's certainly helped, as did the spare pants.
