I've enjoyed driving by the array of flags set up at about 95th and State Line since they were set up around the 4th of July. There's one flag for each US serviceman killed in Iraq, and the number keeps growing. I have thought it was a great tribute each time I saw the collection and was excited to see the old flags removed, the grass beneath them mowed, and newer flags replaced last week in preparation for Veterans' Day.
But, now, I've read in a couple places that someone over the weekend knocked down the flags. How insulting. It sounds like volunteers have picked up all the flags again, so that's good. Maybe this extra press will give some more energy to the people responsible for the memorial and encourage them to keep it going.
Events:
- Veterans' Day
- Garth Brooks at the Sprint Center
- Kansas City Kitty points out that the Found Magazine and PostSecret guys are coming to town to benefit the National Hopeline Network and the Midwestern Innocence Project
- O'Dowds on the Plaza is having 11-year anniversary specials all week.
