Blue Koi
From TheKCGuy
I made it to the new Blue Koi location on Mission Road in December 2007 and was really pleased. Not only were most of the favorites from their 39th street location still on the menu, but the food was just as good too.
Blue Koi is plenty casual, so you won't feel out of place in jeans. But it certainly doesn't feel like one of the large chain dine-o-tainment places that you'll find in every mall in town. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The Mission Road location doesn't offer the same entertaining view that the 39th street location does, though, since it's not really surrounded by much yet. Nonetheless, there's plenty to look at inside the restaurant thanks to the active bar.
I was glad to hear that we didn't have to wait long since we arrived without reservations on a Saturday evening. Perhaps it was the cold weather keeping people home.
Blue Koi doesn't offer an extensive wine list, but they have a thorough enough assortment of beers, wine, and cocktails for a casual spot to satisfy just about everyone who wants to wet their whistle. The menu isn't huge, and from what I can tell it's identical between the two locations. There's a pretty easy to find one on their website, so I won't reproduce it here. The chicken curry and the chicken or tofu in black bean sauce were favorites at our table. In fact, I don't think any of us had a complaint about the food at all. If we had, we would probably have mentioned it when the owner dropped by to check on us and joke with us for a few minutes. That's a nice touch, and goes a long way toward making a great impression on me.
Due to movie tickets, we didn't stick around for dessert or any of the wide selections of teas they offer. I'll have to do that on my next trip there. There will be another one soon.
