Bristol

The classic, local seafood restaurant Bristol has two locations in the Kansas City metro area. In addition to the one at Town Center that opened in the 90's after the Plaza location closed, there is now one in the Power and Light District.

Town Center

I stopped by the Town Center location for dinner in February 2008. I may have been at that location once before, but I was certainly at the one on the Plaza a bunch, way back when. I think it's been 10 years or so since they moved. Much like their plaza location, they have a dome ceiling. This one eerily carried voices across the restaurant sometimes, so it might not be a good place to go to plan your next big heist. You could do that in the spacious bar, though. There's plenty of room in there, and even lots of counter space if you like to munch while you drink.

Anyway, I had forgotten what a diverse seafood menu they offer. What I dug most, though, was their calamari. It comes with fried carrots and fried jalapenos along with two yummy sauces. It was a good appetizer, and a bit too big for just two of us. In fact, I may try to fry up some carrots like that myself some time.

The selection of seafood was impressive. With selections from just about every different mainstream type of fish, you can surely find something you like. They also have a pretty good collection of land food for those of you who won't eat stuff that breathes water. I had some delicious seared tuna, some of the best I've had.

Their dessert menu is a little dangerous because of how many good things are on there. They also have the dessert tray that they'll carry around, but we opted out of that since we knew we'd order several options from it. The apple pie a la mode was scrumptious, but about a billion degrees at first.

It was good to get back out to the Bristol after such a long hiatus. For you Southlanders, this might be one of the great places out there.

Power and Light

I haven't been to the Power and Light location yet, since they just opened officially on February 26, 2008. I look forward to trying out their Happy Hour on the patio when it gets warmer, though.
