The Missouri River 340 starts today. It's a "race" from Kansas City to St. Charlse, Missouri. This 100 hour race features over 100 boats full of contenders paddling downstream through beautiful, hot Missouri.

About 10 years ago, I had no idea that there was such thing as a Missouri River 340 race. I hopped into a pontoon boat to ride along with my uncle for as far as we could stand. The boat was well outfitted, but we couldn't contend with the main danger, which was boredom. Though I still consider it the most fun vacation of my life, after about 5 days of stopping at every town we passed and looking around, we pulled out at the St. Louis arch and headed home.

I'd like to do the Missouri River 340 at some point, or at least try it again in a motorized boat. Heading farther down the Mississippi or starting back up it somewhere might be fun, too. I'll keep my eye on the MR 340 and see how these guys do this year. Good luck!
