I've heard just about enough about how horrible fireworks are and how we should have roving packs of police looking for offenders and executing them. The celebration of Independence Day is our opportunity to remind each other how we are independent from the control of the state. We maintain individual rights, including the ultimate right to assemble others and to secede from the state. Lighting off a few sparkling, popping fountains behind the backs of the the officials is a tiny way to remind each other of those rights, and to remind the statists of their tenuous control over the citizens. The widespread exasperation over the neighborhood kinds shooting off fireworks is ridiculous. I recommend that those who are up in arms over them find something more significant to get their panties twisted up about.
