Martini Corner is the neighborhood on 31st, just east of Gillam Rd. It contains a few hotspots that all work together pretty well.
On a summer afternoon, I recommend Sol Cantina's outdoor patio. Unless you don't like drinking Mexican beers while looking at scantily clad college coeds.
On a weekend night, the Velvet Dog is the place to be. Especially if it's warm enough to stand outside and play pool or bocce ball.
If you need to watch something on the TV or actually eat something, stop into the Tower Tavern for those sliders. Man, they're good. The Pitch even rated them the best of 2007, I think.
If you're in a more hoity-toity mood, try The Drop. They have martinis and classy crowds.
